PORTLAND United have confirmed the signing of striker Liam Sayers and goalkeeper Sam Moggeridge for the 2023/24 Wessex League Premier Division season.

Sayers bagged 11 goals for the Blues last season and finished second in the scoring charts behind Greg Borthwick (13).

The former Portsmouth and Dorchester hitman has already bagged two goals in pre-season, both coming in the 4-0 win over Blandford United.

Sayers then played 60 minutes of the 2-0 defeat to his former side Dorchester on Tuesday, following a knee injury to Borthwick.

Adding Sayers to their ranks also means Portland have extra cover up top, with Borthwick joining fellow forward Hayden Scott on the sidelines with injury.

He joins Bailey Rowe and Troy Walbridge as striker options in attacking positions.

It also means Sayers will embark on a second full season at Portland after joining in the 2021/22 season from Dorset neighbours Bridport.

Moggeridge, meanwhile, kept for Portland's reserve team in the Dorset Premier League last season and also turned out for Dorchester Town Under-23s.

He played three times for the Magpies last season and once for the Blues.

Sayers and Moggeridge could play a part in Portland's friendly at Holt United this evening (6.45pm).
