TEAM WAIKIKI 34

WJNC WILDCATS 29

TEAM Waikiki claimed a double victory as the South & West Dorset League Division One caught up on games lost to poor weather.

Waikiki first beat WJNC Wildcats 34-29 before a more comfortable 52-36 success over Artifex Krakens.

Against Wildcats, Waikiki’s GS Lauren Dabbs was finding lots of space and shooting accurately, but Wildcats’ smooth flow through court allowed them to take an early lead.

Waikiki’s defence attempted to put more pressure on Wildcats in the second quarter, but they picked up the pace to counteract this and led by three at half-time.

The game became fiercely competitive in the second half as both teams played with speed and provided tough defence.

Thanks to some excellent teamwork, Waikiki steadily worked their way into the lead and then never looked back.

They made it two wins by beating Krakens, whose GA Molly Shewbridge performed some great drives towards the ball.

However, Waikiki’s experienced defence worked their way into the game and helped their team into an 11-8 lead.

In the second quarter, heavy pressure from Waikiki’s defence allowed their players to come up with multiple intercepts.

Despite accurate shooting from Krakens’ Sam Shewbridge, Waikiki held onto their three-goal lead at half-time.

Waikiki’s shooting was consistent, despite the pressure from Krakens, in the third quarter.

This allowed them to extend their lead slightly and provide much-needed breathing space on the scoreboard.

From there, Krakens struggled to stay in the game.

They fought hard, with Molly Shewbridge providing the stand-out performance, but Waikiki’s persistence paid off and they put their foot down to take a convincing win.

GUNGHO MARKETING 49

FIRST FIT WINDOWS 18

ALSO in Division One, Gungho Marketing saw off First Fit Windows 49-18.

The first quarter was low-scoring due to excellent, full-court defence from both teams.

Gungho’s circle defence pairing of Naomi Curtis and Erin Purnell worked dynamically together, which helped their team into the lead.

Gungho’s shooters then found their stride in the second quarter and this, combined with their strong defence, allowed them to extend their lead out, impressively not allowing First Fit to score for an entire quarter.

First Fit bounced back quickly after half-time and earned some much-needed goals for themselves.

Gungho, however, remained strong throughout the second half as both teams tried various tactical changes, but Gungho were able to maintain their consistency and domination to win.

THE VETERANS HUB 40

NEW BODY FITNESS 33

THERE was a close encounter in the Premier Division as The Veterans’ Hub beat New Body Fitness 40-33.

Veterans got off to a great start, but New Body then settled into their stride and, after some impressive goals from GA Grace Farrah, were back in the game and had a one-goal lead at quarter time.

The second quarter was another close one, with both teams fighting hard.

For Veterans, although their defence, especially GD Lauren Osborne, won possession back for them on multiple occasions, they were unable to convert their opportunities.

New Body took advantage of this and extended their lead out to three by half-time.

Veterans made some tactical changes in the third quarter, including switching Rachel Scarff to GA, where she began to score consistently from the team’s possession.

After a phenomenal effort, Veterans had turned the score around and were leading 29-25 at the end of the third quarter.

New Body tried to get their lead back in the final quarter, but Veterans were now playing with confidence and closed out the victory.

BUGLERS 37

COASTAL CHEESE 21

BUGLERS ensured Coastal Cheese remain with only one win this season, following a 37-21 triumph.

Buglers started well, intercepting passes and converting gained possession seamlessly.

While Coastal still had opportunities to keep the score close, thanks partially to some well-timed interceptions from C Martha Usher, they were unable to convert these into goals and trailed 22-10 at half-time.

At the start of the third quarter, Coastal showed improvement, maintaining possession and preventing Buglers from regaining possession.

Buglers, however, found their defensive rhythm once again to extend their lead, Coastal never recovering despite a closer final quarter.

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 78

ARTIFEX DRAGONS 31

LEADERS Belle Construction delivered a trademark huge win, defeating Artifex Dragons 78-31.

Dragons made a strong start with an interception but Belle GA Jaimee Browne’s fast movement around the shooting circle helped Belle pull away to a 21-9 lead.

Belle made some incredible interceptions in the second quarter, adding pressure onto Dragons, and extending their advantage to 35-18 at half-time.

Belle continued to dominate with fluid movement through court in a fast-paced third quarter.

GA Madison Carter’s precise shooting was a shining light for Dragons, although they continued to struggle as Belle continued to pile on the goals in a dominant result.
