WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson has revealed plans to look at “two or three” triallists during pre-season with a view to joining the first-team squad.

Wilkinson has already signed 19 players for the 2023/24 Vanarama National League South season, which is due to begin on Saturday, August 5.

He has previously pledged to limit his squad to a maximum of 23 players, leaving room for loanees and triallists if required.

Weymouth are also understood to be filling spots in their under-23 setup, under the guidance of new boss Craig Adams.

And Wilkinson elaborated on his plans to assess players later this summer, telling Echosport: “We will have two or three triallists coming in.

“I don’t call them triallists, they’re young and hungry players that we will have a look at but there will be no announcements on things like that because we don’t know how good they are.

“We’ve done a lot of homework on them, but can they handle this level?

“The 23s will have some great options with certain players that we’ve spoken to and looked at.

“Craig is doing a good job working extremely hard to make sure we’ve got some young talent coming through, especially local players and young ex-players.

“As a group and as a one, we’re doing well as a club.”

Meanwhile, Echosport understands Weymouth are looking to recruit a second keeper as back-up and competition for Gerard Benfield next season.

The Terras are also set to sign a forward with US Premier League, Southern and Isthmian League experience, while striker Ben Thomson and winger Hari McCoy are being monitored.
