There was accurate shooting at both ends, however Belle’s defensive prowess meant their shooters had more opportunities and they were able to extend their lead.
New Body brought Mia Hallifax on at WD for the second half, and she rewarded them with several interceptions at the start of the third quarter.
New Body had a much better final quarter, and were able to keep up with Belle, but this was not enough to close in on Belle’s lead.
FIRST FIT WINDOWS 37
ARTIFEX GRIFFINS 48
ARTIFEX Griffins remain unbeaten in Division One with a 48-37 win over First Fit Windows.
It was a strong start across the court for Griffins, with possession gains from their C Jenni Ayles and GD Tammie Brown followed up by accurate shooting from Griffins GS Candice Barton and GA Rihanna Nutman.
First Fit’s attack were quick with the ball, and their GK Charlotte Newman applied hard defensive pressure. This meant Griffins only held a slim four-goal lead at quarter time.
Griffins tried to stamp their authority on the game but some lovely midcourt play from First Fit and on-point shooting from GS Ella Stanton meant they were still in touch at half-time.
First Fit tried their best to maintain the scoreboard pressure on Griffins in the second half, but accurate passes through midcourt from Griffins’ WD Kat King and accuracy under the post from their shooters made for a good win.
EXE TRAINING 59
ARTIFEX SIRENS 22
EXE Training took a comfortable 59-22 victory over Artifex Sirens in Division Two.
There was a strong defensive start to this game, with Sirens’ GK Christine Jones showing off her defensive skills to win the ball back.
This was, however, matched at the other end by Exe’s defence and they quickly took the game out to an eight-goal lead.
Sirens were slow off the mark in the second quarter, which proved costly for them as Exe capitalised and extended their lead to 23 goals at half-time.
Sirens had a much better third quarter and were able to match Exe goal-for-goal, although this was not enough to close their lead.
In the final quarter, Exe put their foot down once again, with accurate shooting from GA Ellie Donoghue, well supported by WA Jazz Matthews. Exe dominated the final quarter to wrap up victory.
ZEST 53
WJNC WAVES 21
ZEST’S experience shone through in a 53-21 win over WJNC Waves in Division Two.
Zest worked the ball quickly around the circle in the first quarter, which outsmarted Waves’ young defenders.
Waves also made some unfortunate mistakes in attack and Zest stormed to a 17-5 lead at quarter time.
Zest picked up the pace in the second quarter to increase their lead, and controlled play throughout court meant Waves did not get many opportunities to win back possession.
Waves steadily worked their way back into the game in the third quarter, though, and were beginning to figure out how to play through Zest’s defence.
In the final quarter, Zest continued to play fast and controlled, which meant they pushed out their lead and took a very convincing win.
