BELLE CONSTRUCTION 87

THE VETERANS HUB 19

REIGNING champions Belle Construction were in dominant form as they crushed The Veterans Hub 87-19 in the South & West Dorset League Premier Division.

Veterans were missing some key players and only had six on court. This meant Belle’s defence was strangling, with Veterans continually unable to find a way through.

Veterans’ defenders worked hard but could not break the connection between Belle’s shooters.

As the game went on, Veterans continued to work hard, not showing any signs of fatigue, but Belle were too strong on this occasion and took a big win.

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS A 23

McCARTHY STONE 25

THERE was a far tighter Premier Division clash as McCarthy Stone edged Warmer Home Improvements A 25-23.

McCarthy started well, taking an early lead in the first quarter thanks to some great defence from McCarthy GK Ellie Maslen and GD Lauren Osgood, keeping Warmer A’s opportunities to score to a minimum.

Warmer A then picked up in second quarter, especially in defence.

Accurate passing made for some great play at either end but McCarthy withstood the pressure from Warmer and managed to increase their lead.

The pace of the game slowed in the third quarter, which proved advantageous for Warmer A’s attack, who managed to secure more goals.

Despite this being a better quarter from Warmer, clinical shooting from McCarthy’s GS Mandy Grafton kept them in the lead.

During the final quarter, Warmer A began to dominate.

They stepped up in defence and their attack responded by securing goal after goal.

It was, however, too late to affect the final score, as McCarthy clung to their lead to secure a two-goal win.

TEAM WAIKIKI 47

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS B 22

THIS Division One contest proved to be tough for newly-promoted Warmer B, as they faced former Premier Division team Waikiki and lost 47-22.

Waikiki started off understandably strong, dominating centre-court play, although Warmer B found their feet as the quarter went on, and began to adjust to the flow and speed of play. Warmer B’s GD Rose Walters stood strong in the second quarter with some great interceptions, but Waikiki took a 25-11 lead into half-time.

Warmer still showed good spirit in the third quarter, despite being down on the scoreboard.

Waikiki took an expected big win, although both teams were laughing and demonstrating good sportsmanship through the final quarter and the game, making this a lovely match to watch.

DREAM DIGITAL 11

ARTIFEX SIRENS 40

ARTIFEX Sirens gave a polished display to beat Dream Digital 40-11 in Division Two.

Sirens showed off their experience against an untested Dream side who, despite not coming out on top in this game, showed lots of promise for the season ahead.

Sirens progressed the ball down court well in the first quarter, although mistakes began to creep in from both sides as the quarter wore on.

After the quarter break, the game picked up the pace again and Sirens continued to show their strength.

Sirens’ Sarah Hopkins entered the game at GD and made an impact immediately, applying pressure to Dream’s attack and winning ball.

Dream, however, had a much better quarter having now settled into the game, and were able to convert more of their possession into goals.

In the second half, both teams began to show signs of fatigue. Dream continued to work hard, with the connections in their attack now beginning to take shape.

For Sirens, their GA Molly Shewbridge provided them with dynamic movement in attack. The final score went strongly in Sirens’ favour, although Dream’s play improved throughout the game.
