WEYMOUTH’S players are “believing” in the Terras’ survival mission following their 3-1 win over promotion hopefuls Dartford, boss Bobby Wilkinson insists.

Weymouth remain 22nd after claiming a treasured three points against the Darts, who remain second after their ninth league loss in 35 games.

Ahkeem Rose won and scored a penalty to put Weymouth ahead before ex-Terra Pierre Fonkeu equalised in the 43rd minute.

Weymouth then put the game to bed in the second half, Brad Ash finishing off a wonderful move and Tom Blair powering home a delectable free-kick.

It means Wilkinson’s men are now one point away from escaping the bottom four going into a momentous clash with relegation rivals Chippenham tomorrow (7.45pm).

Speaking to uptheterras.co.uk, Wilkinson said: “All the boys deserve all the praise, and my management team. I say it every week, I’m a broken record.

“As long as we prepare right and we do well, I’m just so pleased for everyone at the club again.

“Back-to-back wins is so important but it’s already gone, we move on to Chippenham.

“We’ve been here before when we get close and we don’t cross that line. The word consistency is so important.

“I’m a very proud man because we’re still giving ourselves a chance. That’s all I want to do, I just want to give a bit of belief.”

Wilkinson was particularly buoyed by the Terras’ response to Fonkeu’s goal.

“What we’ve been working on is be positive when it’s 1-1 or you’re 1-0 down,” he revealed.

“We go negative, we drop off, we sit in deep. So, the message was at half-time to come out and be 1-0 down.

“That might seem cliché, but we did something different. I wanted to stay on the front foot and beat Dartford.

“That was the message all week. If you want to beat one of the big boys, you beat Dartford.”

He added: “You’re seeing that my team are believing. That’s a key word. If it goes to the final day of the season, it goes to the final day of the season.

“But let’s not get too high, let’s get back to reality and prepare for what is just another three points on Tuesday.

“I hear a lot of people telling me it’s a six-pointer. It’s just three points. I don’t think many people in the league would’ve believed we’d have won three points here.

“I think a lot of people would’ve been happy with a point. Not this group of players, no way.”
