WEYMOUTH “can only go up” from their 3-1 loss to Farnborough, according to manager Bobby Wilkinson.

Weymouth sank to the bottom of the Vanarama National League South standings after their defeat, coupled with Hungerford’s 1-0 win over Cheshunt.

There will be much for Wilkinson to ponder after a flat first half led to a 2-0 half-time deficit, Ollie Robinson and Freddie Grant capitalising on defensive errors to score.

Adding injury to insult, Luke Nippard was stretchered off and later taken to hospital after Weymouth had made all three changes.

Despite playing with ten men for half an hour, the Terras scored a sublime consolation as David Sesay’s rocket flew into the top corner from 30 yards.

Boro’s Jack Ball nearly grabbed a fourth, hitting the bar with his own long-range effort, but the Yellows were never in danger of missing out on victory.

Speaking to Echosport after witnessing his side go bottom with only 15 games remaining, Wilkinson said: “We can only go up.

“Results have gone against us but that’s football. We’re still in with a chance so we’re just going to have to keep going.

“We’re disappointed we’ve gone back to the bottom but we’ll dust ourselves off and go again.

“We’ve got plenty of time. I always say judge a man when they’re losing.

“I’m looking around and judging people when you’re losing, not when you’re winning.”

Nippard was in the first half the recipient of a high boot into the chest from Conor Lawless, who escaped a booking.

The former Bournemouth man, who picked up a suspected pulled hamstring, later coughed up blood.

Wilkinson said: “We think he’s pulled his hamstring but he was coughing up blood from that incident.

“We don’t know the full ins and outs because he’s gone to hospital. As soon as we know, we’ll get something put out from the club.”

Wilkinson felt the tackle on Nippard in the first half was worthy of a dismissal.

“It was a red card,” Wilkinson insisted. “When luck’s against you, that’s what happens.

“When I make the two positive changes and then Luke gets carried off and we haven’t got another sub. That’s football.

“We’re getting no rub of the green. You can’t make two positive changes and then your central midfielder goes down, has to be carried off and we’ve made all three subs.

“You couldn’t write that. I’m not here to make excuses. We didn’t perform well and we were definitely off-par compared to Saturday.

“That’s that consistency again. We just didn’t perform well. We’ll dust ourselves down and we’ll go again on Saturday what’s a big game for the club.”

Wilkinson also touched on Sesay’s goal and a spirited final 30 minutes with ten players.

He said: “The goal was unbelievable, I’m very proud of my boys with ten men how they kept going.

“That could’ve been six, seven, eight. My boys kept digging in, kept working extremely hard.

“The game was over by then but we kept trying to go forward. It’s a disappointing night.”
