WIMBORNE TOWN RESERVES 5

BALTI SPORTS 0

BALTI Sports were outclassed 5-0 by Wimborne Town Reserves as the Magpies’ eye-catching Jewson Dorset Premier League form continued at New Cuthbury.

Wimborne extended to 16 games their unbeaten run and now find themselves in third place, four points behind leaders Westland having played three games more.

As for Balti, their miserable season continues in 12th place and their afternoon at free-flowing Wimborne got off to the worst possible start after just one minute.

Balti’s defence was caught out by a simple long ball over the top and Liam Nixon took full advantage to make it 1-0.

Nixon doubled Wimborne’s advantage with a cool finish over keeper Andy Nott from 12 yards.

And there was a touch of fortune about Wimborne third goal as Adam Holmes’ long-range effort cannoned off teammate Luke Sheehy before finding the net for a 3-0 half-time lead.

Brad Waters needed only five minutes of the second half to make it 4-0, flooring Nott with a fake and then rolling the ball home.

Balti, who travelled with only 11 regular first-teamers in addition to Gary Harvey and boss Marco Nott, saw half-chances come and go for Matty Chambers and Jack Drummond.

However, the hosts completed their win through Heath Thornton with 15 minutes to go.

Speaking to Echosport, manager Marco Nott admitted his side were short of the level required to compete against a vibrant young Magpies side.

He said: “I’ve got absolutely no complaints, they’re a brilliant young outfit. Well coached and very well set up and organised.

“They’re certainly going in the right direction and will be a force for many years. We’ve played them twice now and they’re by far the best side we’ve come up against.

“We obviously don’t help ourselves by going up there with 11 players. I had to come on for the last five minutes, which was truly embarrassing.”

Nott also had sympathy for brother Andy, who once again was overworked and made a number of fine saves to keep the scoreline moderately respectable.

“He pulled off some superb saves, it could’ve been double figures,” Nott admitted.

“I feel sorry for him recently because he’ll probably look at his record and think he’s conceded four or five a few times in the last few weeks.

“He kept them at bay and to be fair to the lads, the second half we were on a hiding to nothing.

“I said to them to just try and get something out of the game. The lads gave it their all, they’re just low on confidence, silly mistakes and more to blame are the 15 lads that aren’t there.

“They’re not helping their teammates out, that’s just as disappointing as anything on the pitch.”

Balti host Blandford United on Saturday (2pm).
