WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson admitted the manner of the Terras’ poor second-half display was “mind-blowing” in the 2-1 loss to Concord Rangers.

Wilkinson watched on as Weymouth bossed the first half, Tom Blair putting the hosts deservedly 1-0 up.

However, Concord came out rejuvenated in the second half as Ricky Modeste’s stunning curler levelled the scores.

And Modeste then won a penalty that led to the winning goal, Mo Bettamer reacting quickest to score after his spot-kick was parried by Weymouth keeper Zaki Oualah.

Weymouth’s defeat followed back-to-back 2-1 wins against Hampton & Richmond and Dulwich Hamlet, missing the chance to extract themselves from the bottom four.

Speaking to Echosport as the second half proved a polar opposite to the first 45, Wilkinson said: “It’s a bit mind-blowing, isn’t it?

“We were so good and then I don’t know if it was panic, we were worried and got rid of the ball to keep it away from the goal.

“You can’t do that at this level. I’m going to go away and analyse that because it was panic stations in the second half.

“They had nothing to lose, they threw the kitchen sink at us because we battered them first half.

“Lots of teams are going to throw something at us, you’ve got to then stay in the game and be brave on the ball.

“We talk bout being brave on the ball all the time I just think, second half, we weren’t brave on the ball. We played into their hands too much.”

Wilkinson also reflected on the league table situation, which sees Concord leapfrog Weymouth into 22nd with the Terras still just two points off safety.

He said: “Let’s look at the facts, it was an opportunity wasted and that’s why we’re disappointed.

“If we got out (of the drop zone) and then went back in at the weekend, it’s not about one game.

“All I’m pleased about in the last ten days is that we’ve given ourselves an opportunity to get out.

“Results have gone our way, I know people picked up draws, but we’re still one game away from getting out.

“For instance, if we won our next two out of three we’d be out. I can only take positives, because I’m a manager that believes.

“I can’t dwell on it. It was disappointing in the second half. We’re all frustrated and down.”

Ahkeem Rose and Tom Bearwish picked up hamstring injuries but Wilkinson addressed Rose’s injury with Reading loanee striker David Nyarko an unused substitute.

“Rosey could hardly run in the last 25 minutes but I left him on because he might’ve got a goal,” he told BBC Radio Solent.

Fellow loanees Will Dawes (selection) and Chris Francis (cramp) were also left out, along with Nahum Melvin-Lambert (dead leg).

Lending his thoughts on the trio, Wilkinson told Echosport: “Will was selection, Chris was struggling with cramp.

“He’s only a youngster and has played so many games. I rang him and said: ‘We’re going to freshen you up, re-energise you’.

“Nahum wasn’t in the squad because he was training for Reading and took a bad whack. That’s just my luck with a loanee.

“I would’ve loved him on the bench to come on. We got a phone call from Reading saying we can’t take that gamble.

“Hopefully he might be back Saturday if Rosey doesn’t make it.”
