NEW BODY FITNESS 46

McCARTHY STONE 46

NEW Body Fitness and McCarthy Stone played out a compelling 46-46 draw in the South & West Dorset League Premier Division.

Even play between both teams made for a competitive start to the game.

There was some great circle play between New Body GA Grace Farrah and GS Maisie Fowler.

McCarthy Stone worked hard around the circle edge to push through New Body’s strong defence and were ahead at half-time.

McCarthy’s GD Lauren Osgood worked hard to keep the ball out of New Body’s shooters’ hands in the third quarter, which sparked some great teamwork between their GA Maisie Fowler, WA Izzy Faulkner and C Kirsty Winning.

Lanni Sellick worked hard at C for McCarthy, and they went into the final quarter with a three-goal lead that hard-working New Body clawed back for a share of the points.

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 72

GUNGHO MARKETING 20

BELLE continued their grip on top spot with a big 72-20 win over Gungho Marketing.

A turnover off the first centre pass gave Belle an early lead but Gungho initially stayed close with accurate shooting from GS Georgia Pearson.

However, sharp passing from Belle in their attacking end saw them take a clear advantage into quarter time that Gungho could not keep up with.

In the second quarter, Gungho’s GD Lauren McRobbie and GK Erin Purnell worked hard to put the pressure on Belle’s attack, with McRobbie making some key interceptions. This was quickly counteracted, however, by Belle’s midcourt players.

Gungho moved Olivia Conning to GA for the third quarter, who added some extra confidence to their attacking end.

Belle, however, continued to dominate across the court as GD Jayne Guppy gave her team every opportunity to increase their lead, picking up several rebounds and helping move the ball down court in a 52-point margin of victory.

PORTLAND PIRATES 30

COASTAL CHEESE 44

COASTAL Cheese took the honours in their Division One clash with Portland Pirates, winning 44-30.

After a frenzied start, Coastal were first to settle, allowing them to capitalise on interceptions and Portland’s errors.

Coastal WA Cat Simmons fed the ball accurately into their shooters, who were happy to convert to goals.

Portland then started the second quarter the stronger team, with WA Sue Stevens and GA Molly Shewbridge linking up well to close the gap.

However, Coastal calmly reasserted themselves in the third quarter, slowing the pace of the game down, to their advantage, and gradually began to extend their lead.

In the final quarter, control swung back into Portland’s favour, with Molly Shewbridge stepping up and not missing a shot.

Despite this, Coastal’s lead was too much and they took the win.

FIRST FIT WINDOWS 58

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 22

FIRST Fit Windows enjoyed a fine 58-22 triumph over Joe Newton Electrical in Division One.

Several interceptions made for an exciting start, while Joe Newton’s GA Caragh White and GS Meadow Noble worked well together despite First Fit being more clinical.

First Fit extended their lead in the second quarter, moving the ball quickly down court, while their GA Chantelle Halloran shot accurately.

Joe Newton had moved Sienna Bright into C, which created more movement in their attack, but it was not enough to stop First Fit leading at half-time.

The third quarter began with strong attack from both teams, particularly on their centre passes.

First Fit’s GD Charlotte Newman made it difficult for Joe Newton to get the ball into their shooters, while Joe Newton’s GK Kaz Matthews got some great rebounds.

Both teams continued to put in maximum effort in the final quarter but First Fit continued to be ruthless and, in a final push, stretched their lead before the final whistle.
