DORCHESTER Sports have replaced the outgoing Mo Hereka with attacking midfielder Owen Peart.

Hereka joined Sports from Bridport in late December and played three times for the county town side.

Weymouth Under-23s midfielder Hereka, who leaves due to work commitments in the Midlands, parted ways in style with a goal in the 2-2 draw at rivals Balti Sports on Saturday.

Speaking to Echosport, Dorch Sports boss Ashley James admitted Hereka’s departure would be a big blow to his side.

He said: “Mo’s had to go back to Birmingham to work, obviously that’s a big disappointment for us, but we’ve signed Owen back on from Bridport to replace Mo.

“Mo told us after the game, he didn’t want to tell us before which is fair enough. He wanted to stay and play for us but work has taken him back that way. He’s been really good for us.

“Luckily, I managed to sign Owen for the last 16 games. He’s a brilliant player and still good friends with the lads.

“That was an easy one to get done and we’re delighted he’s come for the last half of the season.”

Peart has struggled for game time since manager Chris Herbst took over at Bridport, despite having scored three goals for the Bees this season.

Peart scored seven goals in 15 appearances for Dorchester Sports in 2021/22 and James was quick to sing the Weymouth Under-23 star’s praises.

He added: “I’m not sure what’s happened (at Bridport). It was a no-brainer and he’s still signed on for us and our reserves.

“I’m not sure how it’s come about from their perspective but for us we’re delighted that he wants to come and play for us.

“He told me he just wants to come and play some football. We will give him the minutes he needs and hopefully he can do as well as he did for us last year and win us some games.”
