HOTSHOT Harvey Bradbury described his relief at scoring a first league goal for Dorchester Town, admitting: “It’s a bit of a monkey off my back”.
Bradbury had previously opened his Magpies account with a Dorset Senior Cup goal in the 5-2 win over Sherborne Town in December.
However, Bradbury scored a seventh-minute goal in the 2-0 win over Yate Town to break his duck in his eighth Dorchester league appearance since moving from Gosport in late October.
The goal also doubled as Dorchester’s first of the calendar year and was a popular one in the Magpies’ dressing room.

Speaking to Echosport, Bradbury said: “Brilliant, obviously we’ve been on a bit of a run, then we lost the last couple and dropped off a little bit.
“We’re hoping (with) a fresh start and the New Year we can really pick it up.
“On a personal note, it was good to get my first league goal because the lads have been on to me a little bit to get that.
“That’s done and it’s a new year so hopefully we can start as we mean to go on.”
He added: “It’s a bit weird because I’ve been playing well and it just wouldn’t drop to me or I’d miss the chance.
“Then you have to wait another couple of games for a chance. It’s good that it luckily just dropped to me early in the game and I managed to put it away.
“It’s a bit of a monkey off my back.”
Bradbury was brought in to the Avenue by boss Glenn Howes to offer the Magpies something different with his physical style.
His type of play has often seen decisions go against him this season but the striker is flattered by Dorchester’s interest in him and admitted he is enjoying life at the club.
Bradbury said: “I do feel like I should get more fouls but I like give it a little bit the other way as well.
“As long as I’m getting away with doing that then I’m not too fussed.
“It’s nice to feel wanted. When I met Glenn down in Hedge End the first time he pretty much sold it to me.
“I knew straight away that I wanted to play for him. When you’ve got a manager like Glenn and the staff and the players want to play for them, not much can go wrong.”
Asked for his first impressions of Dorchester, he said: “It’s brilliant, I’m pleasantly surprised.
“I was surprised at the stadium, the facilities the club’s got, the boys are all really good – a young group, all fit, and that shows when we play.
“Obviously Poole was a drop off for us but apart from that we’ve been brilliant every game.”
