WEYMOUTH & Portland were healthily represented in the World Triathlon Championship finals in Abu Dhabi, with the remarkable Linda Ashmore once again stole the limelight.
Ashmore, 76, was among a strong contingent of triathletes from Weymouth and Portland who braved the heat in the United Arab Emirates to represent Great Britain.
The grandmother became world champion in her age group by winning convincingly, some 20 minutes ahead of her nearest rival.
Conditions were challenging for the competitors, although the water temperature was 29 degrees Celsius making it a very pleasant non-wetsuit swim.

However, the air temperature hovering around 30 made the run, in particular, quite challenging.
There were even cooling stations around the course for anyone suffering too much in the heat.
Nigel (Paddy) Jones, Kate Baldwin, Francesca Alford and Noel Stubbs all competed in the World Super Sprint Triathlon coming 18th, 14th, eighth and tenth in their respective age groups.
Baldwin also competed in the World Aquabike Championships, coming seventh.
Tom Carter, Martin Smith, Giles Heaman and Ashmore competed in the World Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, claiming eighth, 43rd and fifth while Ashmore topped the podium.
Due to being at the top end of their age groups, Alford, Stubbs, Carter, Baldwin, Heaman and Ashmore automatically qualify to represent Great Britain in their event next year.
All the triathletes were then treated to the Elite Championships final, the last of the 2022 series with double points scoring.
British stars Alex Yee and Georgie Taylor-Brown battled for the world crowns, although both were pipped to the gold and settled for very creditable silver medals.
