MARTINSTOWN climbed to top spot in Division One of the Dorchester Evening League with victory over basement boys Bere Regis.

Dan Belt's half-century helped the new league leaders claim 151-6 despite D Rogerson's (3-52) best efforts with the ball.

In reply, Bere Regis managed just 75-9 from their innings, where S Fry snared 4-25.

Dorchester Youth (87-7) inflicted Herrison Youth's (75 all out) first defeat of the season thanks to Lloyd Mitchem's 20 with the bat and Stuart Beasley's 4-29 with the ball.

The result sees Dorchester move three places into third and Herrison drop to fourth.

In the Knockout Cup, both Abbots-bury and Dewlish made it through to the next round with victories over Charlton Down and Martinstown Seconds respectively.

S Ford's 49 not out saw Abbotsbury reach a comfortable 106-1, the only wicket being claimed by R Woomgoor.

A Smith knocked 48 not out for Down but it wasn't enough to defeat their opponents.

The two sides also met in a Division Two fixture, where the same outcome occurred. This time though, S Mitchem played a crucial role in Abbostbury's success, hitting 34 not out after a successful spell with the leather (4-24).

Meanwhile, T Kellaway starred for Dewlish in their cup success over Martinstown Seconds. He took three wickets for just 29 runs before hitting an unbeaten 50 with the willow.

And Dewlish continued their impressive start to the season with a fourth successive Division Two victory.

Their latest success came against second-placed Cattistock, a game in which Quenton Miller hit 49 for the table-toppers. Martin Langford (3-19) impressed for Cattistock as did B Colledge (38).

In the other Division Two fixture, Hazelbury Bryan (101-9) saw off the challenge of Puddletown Reserves (86-8), thanks in part to M Lewis' impressive bowling figures of 4-19.
