DORCHESTER 2ND 108 (3) lost to WIMBORNE & COLEHILL 2ND 109-5 (19) by five wickets

DORCHESTER Seconds slipped to eighth in Dorset Funeral Plan Division Two with a five-wicket defeat to Wimborne & Colehill Seconds at the Rec.

The county town outfit lost their second game of the season, the first coming on the opening day, after a dismal start with the bat set the hosts off on the wrong foot.

Captain Nick Joslin said: "It was a mixture of good bowling from them and poor batting from us, we played some bad shots at times.

"When we went out to field we did all we could, but we just didn't have enough runs to start with. We might have been in good shaped if we had got 40 or 50 more runs.

"There were some positives to come out of the game, Pete Diffey hit 38 to get us where we were while Stuart Beasley chipped in with 26 and four wickets, so it was a good all-round display from him. It's a shame we will be without him next week at Hamworthy Rec.

"At the end of the day a lack of runs cost us which is a shame."

The visitors won the toss but put Dorchester into bat. Graeme Stephens was out for a duck after lasting just three minutes at the crease, while fellow opener George Thomas soon went for two.

Steve Clifford (8) and Simon Joslin (3) failed to make an impression before Joe Baggs (0) was sent packing with the scoreboard reading just 28 for five wickets gone.

Pete Diffey offered some resistance with a patient 38 but Stuart Beasley (26) was the only other member of the home batting order who managed to reach double figures. In fact the Wimborne bowlers provided more runs through extras than eight of the Dorchester batsmen combined.

The away side's reply didn't set the world alight. Opener Chris Dunk (2) was dismissed by Stuart Voss' catch off Beasley's bowling before Beasley (4-29) went on to remove four more of the visitors' order while Nick Joslin (1-33) had K Hall (12) caught by Diffey. That left Wimborne & Colehill on 38, just ten runs better off than Dorchester at the fall of the fifth- wicket.

But the partnership of J Miller (30) and Neil Gilbert (39) proved the difference as the two men reached the required target without losing any further wickets.
