DESPITE windy and wet conditions, there were still lots of close, competitive games in the South & West Dorset League’s latest round of fixtures.

NEW BODY FITNESS 26

McCARTHY STONE 29

McCARTHY Stone held their nerve to beat New Body Fitness 29-26 in the Premier Division.

New Body's defenders started strong, especially GD Laura Howell, who kept McCarthy’s shooters out of the circle.

However, quick play from McCarthy and long-distance shooting from their GA Lanni Sellick kept them in the game.

New Body C Kirsty Winning was dominant in the second quarter. While McCarthy worked the ball well in attack, strong rebounds from New Body’s defence kept them in the lead at half-time.

THE VETERANS HUB 34

CORFE CRUSADERS 33

Corfe were dominant across court in the second quarter and worked the ball well into their shooters but Veterans stayed in the contest, using short passes to work the ball down court.

Strong shooting from Veterans’ GS Rachel Scarff in the third quarter, as well as continued safe ball movement, meant they pulled the score back to just one goal to make for an exciting final quarter.

There was great circle defence from Corfe’s GK Laura Pearson, however play was now going frantically up and down court.

In the end, Veterans’ steady play meant they took the win by just one goal.

COASTAL CHEESE 32

PORTLAND PIRATES 29

COASTAL Cheese kept up the pressure on Division One leaders Warmer Home Improvements A with a 32-29 success over Portland Pirates.

Coastal got off to a good start but as the first quarter went on Portland managed to pull some goals back.

There was great shooting from both sides and dynamic movement despite the slippery court conditions.

Portland’s defence came up with some great interceptions but Coastal used accurate long passes through court to counteract this and pull ahead going into half-time.

Portland had a stunning third quarter to pull the score back to just two goals going into the final 15 minutes.

Despite the extremely wet conditions, both teams fought hard for the win until the final whistle, with Coastal pulling off a slim three-goal win.

SANDSFOOT SIRENS 29

ZEST 24

SANDSFOOT Sirens were given a run for their money before stretching to a 29-24 victory against Zest in Division Two.
