WEYMOUTH have confirmed the departure of defender Ben Gerring with immediate effect.

Gerring was in his second spell with the Terras but only played four matches as an injury, and his cup-tied status in the FA Cup, ruled him out of a large portion of Weymouth's games.

He started last night's 3-2 loss to St Albans but was substituted at half-time.

His second stay at the Bob Lucas lasted 171 minutes on the pitch and takes his career tally to 94 matches for the club.

In a statement on social media, Gerring claimed he had been shown "no respect" and released via text message by manager Bobby Wilkinson.

Echosport understands the method used to inform Gerring of his exit is true.

When contacted, Wilkinson declined to comment on both the development and reasons for it, plus Gerring's statement.

However, he wished the former Bideford man "all the best" in his future career.

Gerring's statement in question reads: "Disappointed to have been text this morning that I’ve been released from @theterras.

"Absolutely no respect from the man in charge what so ever since I’ve come in the building but we move on. A club and supporters I'll always think highly of."

Weymouth then moved to release their own statement, adding: "We can officially confirm the departure of defender Ben Gerring.

"We would like to thank Ben for his efforts with the squad, and wish him every success going forward."

Weymouth are next in action at home to Braintree Town on Saturday (3pm).
