A SATURDAY Sports Club in Weymouth has launched its 21st year with a full programme of games coaching for youngsters between five and 13-years-old.
Athletics, basketball, mini-cricket, football, hockey, mini-rugby, rounders and mini-tennis are among the activities on the agenda at Conifers Primary School for both boys and girls.
Every discipline is undertaken under the careful supervision of experienced teachers and coaches from the Weymouth tennis and rugby clubs along with Weymouth FC player James Coutts, and the main sponsors are Weymouth College and Carlton Dental Practice.
Sports club organiser Don Whistance began the sessions in 1987 because he found that in the summer there were fewer organised activities in the way of sport and leisure for school children.
He said: "We introduce the children to a variety of sports, some of which they may not have experienced before, which will encourage them to develop as a more complete sportsperson and hopefully inspire them to go looking for a club of their choice in the community."
The club operates every Saturday from 1pm to 4pm at the school in Radipole Lane until early July.
