SLOUGH TOWN 2

Matshazi 58, Davies 67

WEYMOUTH 3

Ash 39 pen, Howe 57, Murray 88

TEN-MAN Weymouth sensationally beat Slough Town 3-2 as Cameron Murray’s 88th-minute strike sank the Rebels at Arbour Park.

His goal gave Weymouth their first league win of the season, the Terras having led 2-0 thanks to strikes in each half from Brad Ash and Teddy Howe.

But sub Arnold Matshazi and Scott Davies scored either side of two yellow cards for Nathan Carlyle as the game turned on its head in nine frantic minutes.

Chances flowed in the dying stages but crucially it was Murray who made his count to end Weymouth’s winless streak in the Vanarama National League South.

Weymouth showed one change from the side that began the 2-1 FA Cup win over Havant last Saturday.

Their only alteration came as Ash replaced Josh Oyinsan at the last minute.

Ben Gerring was the only new addition on the bench, under-23s Matty Burrows, Frankie Monk and Harrison Bruton all making way.

Keelan O'Connell, Tyler Forbes and Murray were boss Bobby Wilkinson's other options from the dugout.

Needing a win to transform their dismal league form, Weymouth started brightly as a corner flashed over centre-half Dan Matsuzaka.

Slough gradually exerted control as the half wore on, Weymouth forced to clear quickly from the feet of Joe Dandy after Matt Lench’s corner.

Slough missed two excellent opportunities as Johnny Goddard volleyed over and the better of the two fell to Josh Jackman, the right-back blazing over after an incisive cut back by Dan Roberts at the byline.

That opportunity seemed to stir Weymouth and the Terras saw Ahkeem Rose glance a header wide before centre-back Carlyle was needed at the other end to prevent a shooting chance on the break.

For the first time in the game, Weymouth were building up a head of steam as Tom Blair’s cross strayed too close to keeper Rhys Forster and Mitchell Parker stung Forster’s palms with Weymouth’s first shot on target.

And eight minutes before the break Weymouth won a penalty thanks to Rose’s clever flick, tempted a hand from Dandy.

Ash duly stepped up to convert into the bottom-right corner with aplomb for his sixth goal of the season to give Weymouth a half-time lead.

Weymouth picked up in the second half where they left off in the first, Matsuzaka fizzing a header wide and Rose then testing Forster.

But the Terras doubled their lead through Howe, the right-back scoring his second goal in as many games, in the 57th minute.

He picked an overhit cross from Tom Bearwish and fired across Forster into the net to send Weymouth’s travelling support into ecstasy.

However, their lead lasted a matter of seconds when sub Matshazi, who had only been on for less than a minute, beat Zaki Oualah at his near post.

Things took a turn for the worse for Weymouth when Carlyle was booked twice in quick succession and received his marching orders.

And their mini collapse was complete when Davies bent home the free-kick from the scene of Carlyle’s second foul to make it 2-2.

Weymouth reached for a triple sub as Murray, O’Connell and Gerring came on for Ash, Rose and Parker.

In a see-saw game, Bearwish slammed a cross against the bar with 19 minutes remaining and Forster showed his agility to paw out O’Connell’s curler.

Back came Slough, though, as Lench had a shot blocked before Aaron Kuhl rifled wide of Oualah’s goal.

Summing up the drama of the game, Weymouth then scored what proved to be the winner in the 88th minute.

Harry Kyprianou and O’Connell were both involved in the build-up, teeing up Murray to send his effort into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season.

Weymouth’s ten men dug extremely deep in four added minutes to preserve their advantage and break their long duck in the league at the 12th attempt.

Bottom-placed Terras are now one point behind Cheshunt in 23rd ahead of Tuesday’s home game with Farnborough (7.45pm).
