THIRTEEN girls from the combined West Dorset and Wey-mouth Swimming Clubs' synchronised section took part in the Dorset County Competition and won four gold medals.
The event, held this year for the first time at Ferndown Leisure Centre, was the first taste of competitive synchronised swimming for most of the girls.
First to enter the water were the Novices and in this section the girls showed their musical and technical ability.
Newcomer to the sport, Alex Arnold, dominated the section to bag first place and the gold medal. Team-mates Hannah Kiss, Katie Christain-Drage and Stephanie Fuller were placed fourth, sixth and ninth respectively.
Next it was the turn of sisters Sophie and Georgia Brynley-Jones, who paired up to bring home gold with a convincing win in the Novice Duet section.
The Grade One group was stronger but Jessica Element, Amie Buttle, Alice Kiss and Charlotte Mansell gave a good account of themselves gaining second, fifth, eighth and tenth spots.
Arnold and Izzy Aldwinkle then joined the girls for the Duet where Element and Mansell came second, Alice and Hannah Kiss third, and Alwinkle and Arnold in fifth.
The penultimate section was the Grade Two technical solos and it was the turn of Gemma Lawrence to jive her way to first spot and the gold medal with Karina Chegwidden of Weymouth gaining a well earned silver.
The duo joined forces for the Duet and took the gold medal to cap off a successful competition for the young squad.
