REIGNING King of the Sands' Terry Oldrid got his Weymouth Beach Volleyball season off to a flying start by winning the first A Series event of the campaign alongside partner Russ Laming.
The duo defeated Ryan and Jules Stout in the final 15-11 but it was also a momentous occasion for the runners-up as well.
Not only was it the first time that the Stouts had reached the showpiece but for Ryan it also heralded a new league record as he became the youngest ever player to reach the showpiece at the age of just 14.
The under-15 national beach champion continues to make rapid progress in the game and is now clearly capable of upsetting opponents of much greater experience.
Josh Ellis and Craig Bishop won the B final. Ellis is more recognised for his boxing exploits while Bishop is a member of Weyport's national water polo side. They defeated Chris Cannon and Clive Budden 15-13.
For the first time ever there was also a C Division competition, which was won by Mark Salmon and Koomba Mogosti who overcame Andy Carlile and Rich Samuel in the final.
Overall 70 players took part in the evening's activities and the teams are expected back on the beach on Tuesday. New players are always welcome and can meet up with the rest of the competitors at the Pavilion end of Weymouth Beach at 6pm.
