MORE than 90 teams enjoyed a feast of football at the Weymouth Cougars' Summer Sixes and Mini Soccer tournament.
Cougars' honorary president, Weymouth and Portland Mayor Coun David Harris, kicked off this year's event held at the Marsh Sports Ground.
Cougars' Sixes has been a regular part of Weymouth's sporting calendar since 1992 with many clubs returning year after year and often travelling large distances.
This year was no exception with entries from as far afield as Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cullompton, Tow-cester and Kettering as well as the usual array of Hampshire and Dorset sides.
The Mini Soccer tournament on the Sunday proved to be both exciting and very entertaining.
BSC Grange ran out winners in the Under-8 section defeating Bristol side Mangotsfield United in the final.
Weymouth are the Under-9 champions having beaten Poole Borough in their final.
King's Park Dynamos took home the Under-10's trophy following their success against a brave Weymouth Terras side.
The six-a-side tournament was extremely competitive with several finals being settled in extra-time.
Oxford-based Radley Boys showed their strength by winning the Under-13 and Under-14 sections, overcoming stiff opposition from Weymouth Terras and Weymouth Victoria respectively.
The Under-11 final proved to be one of the best games of the weekend with Weymouth Youth beating a gallant Cougars' side 1-0.
Michael Hernandez bagged the winner for the Terras.
Towcester Town beat Chickerell United in a penalty shoot-out to decide the Under-12 showpiece, and in the last final of the weekend Dorchester Town Raiders beat Wareham Rangers in the Under-15 competition.
Cougars' spokesman Jim Halls said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people without whose help this competition would not be possible.
"To Simon of Delta Plumbing and Jake of AAA Transport for the loan of their lorries and to Roy of Legg & Sons for the loan of the PA system.
"Also to the small army of helpers especially to Maggie, Julie, Suzanne, Kerry, Dale, Emma, Jessica, Ava, Perry, Ali and David and many others too numerous to name, for organising and running the barbecue and refreshment areas.
"I should also like to express our gratitude to the groundsmen who did a great job of looking after the pitches and surrounding area and to St John Ambulance whose presence is always most welcome.
"A special word of thanks must go to our referees who give up their weekend freely and whose contribution is crucial to the success of the tournament.
"To the managers, players, mums, dads and everyone who attended or had any input into making this one of our most successful tournaments we thank you all."
