WEYMOUTH skipper Dean Jana-way has not given up hope of bringing New Zealander Andrew Falloon over to these shores this summer.

The talented all-rounder captured the Seasiders' interest during a pre-season tour Down Under but so far he has been unable to jet across to the UK due to a hold up with his visa.

Janaway said: "I have not heard anything over the last couple days so he clearly did not receive it on Friday.

"Paul Payne is in contact with him and Andrew did say that he would understand if we knocked the whole thing on the head but we will keep going with it over the next couple of weeks and hopefully he will be here soon.

"Andrew is a class player and there is no doubt that he will be a real bonus for us when he finally comes over."

Weymouth were scheduled to take on local rivals Dorchester at Redlands on Saturday but the highly-anticipated Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League clash was called off due to the wet weather.

Janaway added: "The pitch was soaking so there was no other option really which was disappointing because everyone was really up for it.

"There were also a lot of people coming to watch but at the end of the day there is nothing you can do about the weather.

"It is always good to play against good sides in big games and now we must make sure we get ready for next Saturday which is going to be another massive one for us at Suttoners.

"They are currently top of the league so we will have to be at our best but we are very much looking forward to it."

Dorchester skipper Martyn Richards was also gutted to see the derby game postponed.

He said: "A lot of people from both sides of the Ridgeway were looking forward to it and our boys are particularly disappointed because the build up to it has been going on for a couple of weeks.

"But there is not much you can do when it rains like it did and now we must just concentrate on our next game against Wimborne & Colehill at the Rec.

"We have not been at home for three weeks so we are looking forward to that but we are also going to have to train hard in the days leading up to it.

"Saturday's postponement has meant that some of our players have been without cricket for a few weeks and it is important we get them sharp again."

It is unclear whether Dan Belt would have faced his former team Weymouth had the game gone ahead on Saturday. The all-rounder has been struggling with a thigh injury and Richards reckons a weekend of rest is exactly what the county player needed.

He added: "It has given Dan an extra week to see how his thigh is. No one was more disappointed than him that he was not fully fit this week but he is now focused on getting back playing as soon as he can."

Fans of Weymouth and Dorchester will now have to wait until July 19 before they can watch both sides go head to head.

Richards said: "Hopefully the sun will be out at the Rec that day and we have a great day's cricket. Add to that all the other entertainment that will no doubt go on that afternoon with even more people coming out to watch and it promises to be a great occasion."
