JORDAN Darby and Josh Ellis were victorious in Portland ABC's dinner show at the Clifton Hotel.

Around 300 people crowded into the island venue and they witnessed a superb evening of closely contested bouts.

Darby soon got the home supporters going by defeating Poole's Liam Allen 8-6 on points after a hard-fought battle and there was also success for club-mate Ellis, who showed supreme in-ring skills to overcome Camber-ley's Rocky Godby 11-8.

Fellow Portland members who also entered the squared circle included Michael Elborn and Joe Warley, who both lost narrow points decisions, and Andy McGivern, who was stopped in the second round by Pilgrims' fighter Dave Welch.

Aaron Pryor also represented the island outfit by taking part in a scintillating encounter with Camberley's Julius Elie that was deservedly awarded the best bout of the night trophy. Pryor ended up losing 9-7 on points but both men were given a huge ovation for their efforts.

Bradley Ealson and George Preston also took part in skills bouts for Portland with the latter facing Weymouth's Toby Osmond.

Another Weymouth fighter that impressed on the night was Sean Brady, who won on points against Pilgrims member Luke Lowery.

At the end of the evening the best boxer of the night trophy was presented to Poole's Raynor Mason for his impressive performance in the titanic battle with Elborn.

Portland head coach Vince Ealson said: "It was only our second-ever dinner show and it turned out to be a fantastic evening and a great success. It was held in a marquee and all the boys that boxed did very well with every single bout being very close."

Tom Gardiner was unable to box in the show due to commitments to the Junior ABAs and there was also disappointment for heavyweight Marcin Fojt, who was unable to shake off the flu.

The only other boxer from Portland that was unable to take part was youngster Liam Lights Out' Simpson who once again lived up to his name tag the previous night at Exmouth by notching his third stoppage in a row against host club boxer Harry Webb.
