MIDFIELDER James Coutts is hoping an agreement will be struck in the next 48 hours that will see him remain at Weymouth next season.

The 21-year-old's career at the Wessex Stadium looked in doubt earlier this year but he finished the campaign in fine form, proving a point to boss John Hollins who now looks set to make him a key figure in his squad.

Coutts said: "I have been offered something and myself and the club are still talking but hopefully we will be able to come to some sort of an agreement in the next 24 to 48 hours.

"A few months ago when I got told I may not be required, I did look at other clubs to cover myself.

"I spoke to a few of them but staying at Weymouth is what is best for me and that is what I have always wanted to do.

"With the players the gaffer is looking to bring in there are exciting times ahead. Last year was a big disappointment, even though we did stay up in the end, and I think it is clear we need some fresh faces to push on and I am glad I am one of the ones that he wants to keep."

Coutts was second to only Anton Robinson last season in terms of appearances, clocking up 49 outings, and he is glad he has been able to change a few minds concerning his ability.

He added: "I was very disappointed to be left out and told I could go out on loan but it also made me even more determined to get back in.

"I spoke to the manager at the time and told him I would prove him wrong and I hope I have now done that and proved that I can play at that level."

The forward played nine games in a loan spell at Weymouth earlier this year.
