WEYMOUTH have announced Bobby Wilkinson as their new manager on a deal running to the end of the 2023/24 season.

Wilkinson, who succeeds David Oldfield as boss, will be joined by assistant boss Mike Percival with immediate effect.

The duo will take charge of Weymouth’s FA Cup tie at Winchester on Saturday (3pm).

Wilkinson, who quit Southern League side Bracknell Town last week, comes to the Terras with a bright reputation.

He led Bracknell to the Isthmian South-Central League title last season and has previously won promotion with Hungerford to the National League South, instigating a rise of 50 places in the English football pyramid.

Crucially, at Hungerford, he gained success while operating on a tight budget – a circumstance similar to the one he will find himself in at Weymouth.

Wilkinson also has experience with Wealdstone, with whom he reached an FA Trophy semi-final in 2018 and steered the Stones to a play-off semi-final.

In a club statement, Weymouth said: “We can this morning announce that Bobby Wilkinson has agreed to take the position of first-team manager with immediate effect.

“We are delighted to welcome Bobby to Weymouth Football Club.

“Bobby shares the club's same passion and drive to take the club forward.

“Joining Bobby at the club will be Mike Percival, who will be his assistant.

“The pair will take over with immediate effect and will be taking training this morning, before meeting with the club's media team for a full interview later today.”

Wilkinson has previously worked with current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers and Brian McDermott while at Reading.

Wilkinson will have his first interview with Echosport this afternoon.
