DAVID Oldfield has departed Weymouth by mutual consent with immediate effect, the Terras have confirmed.

Oldfield’s final match in charge, amid pressing financial issues, proved to be Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Bath City, their sixth in eight games.

Oldfield, 54, won just twice in 31 games as he battled to reverse plummeting form in the National League last season.

After relegation, he then oversaw Weymouth’s worst start to a league season in their 132-year history, losing the first five games this term.

Oldfield came to Weymouth with a glowing reputation having guided former club Oxford City to a play-off position in the Vanarama National League South before his exit in mid-January.

He signed a contract running to the end of the 2023/24 season which has been mutually terminated.

In a brief statement, Weymouth said: “Following discussions between the Weymouth FC board of directors and David Oldfield, we can confirm that David has left the club by mutual consent with immediate effect.

“The board wishes to place on public record our thanks to David for the manner and professionalism he has shown towards the club, players and supporters.

“We wish him and his family the very best for his future.

“No further comment will be made at this point.”

Weymouth have also confirmed the exit of Oldfield's assistant Tom Donati.

The club said: "Following the departure of David Oldfield earlier this evening, we can confirm that assistant manager Tom Donati has also left the club by mutual consent.

"Tom leaves with our thanks and best wishes for his future career. No further comment will be made at this point."

The developments comes before a crucial FA Cup second qualifying round clash at Winchester City on Saturday, with much-needed prize money on offer for the financially-troubled Terras.
