BRIN Doyle’s spell with Portland United will do him the “world of good”, parent club Dorchester Town believe.

Doyle has starred for the Magpies’ under-23s in recent seasons but returns to Portland United having shone in the Blues’ youth ranks earlier in his career.

And the teenager made his debut for Portland in the 5-1 defeat by Christchurch on Saturday, coming on for the final 14 minutes and going close to scoring with a rising drive.

Speaking to Echosport, Dorchester assistant James Wood explained the move with Doyle now looking for senior football in the next stage of his development.

Wood said: “These young players need to get minutes. Brin is very much part of our plans for the future.

“But the lad needs to be playing competitive football, so it will do him the world of good.

“He remains our player but at his young age he needs to be playing. It’s good for all parties.”

Wood also feels comfortable with the move knowing that co-bosses Franklyn Clarke and Sam Poole – with whom he worked at Blackfield – will manage the teenage forward.

He said: “It’s two players we know well, Sam and Franklyn were both playing for us, so it’s two lads that we trust.

“He’s in safe hands with his development. At the moment Portland are doing a great job for us by giving the young lad game time, which he definitely needs.”
