WEYMOUTH manager David Oldfield admitted the 2-0 defeat at Woking was “a difficult loss to take”.

Oldfield’s men have now lost five consecutive Vanarama National League games, scoring only two goals in the process.

Woking sensed blood from the off with a fast start, Tyreke Johnson scoring after a succession of chances in the opening 17 minutes.

Weymouth improved as the first half wore on, Omar Mussa going close with a trio of shots.

In an action-packed game, Weymouth’s Tom Blair and Woking’s David Longe-King saw red in separate incidents.

The returning Ben Morgan then conceded a penalty which allowed Max Kretzschmar to wrap up a hectic victory for the Cards.

Speaking to Echosport, Oldfield said: “The lads worked hard, they tried and deserved something from the game.

“Woking are a good team and are in good form at the moment but I think we competed. It was a difficult loss to take.

“We created some chances and I was pleased with the level from the boys. We did similar last time we played Wealdstone.

“We were close to getting something out of it and close to getting something out of it (Tuesday).

“We didn’t quite have enough to get over the line. It was a strong effort from the players.”

He added: “We didn’t manage to score and obviously that hurts you. If you’re going to concede as well, that makes it a very difficult night.

“In terms of the work rate and collectiveness of the players, I thought we showed some good things that we need to build on going forwards.

“We need to lick our wounds quickly and get back to work as soon as we see the boys again (this) evening and go from there.

“But there were some positives to be taken. We need to keep going.”

Weymouth travel to another in-form side, Torquay, on Saturday (3pm).
