BUCKLAND ATHLETIC 5

BRIDPORT suffered a frustrating 5-0 defeat to a strong Buckland Athletic side as their Toolstation Western League Premier Division difficulties continued.

Former Tiverton hotshot Levi Landricombe fired wide early on before Kris Hastings replied with a wayward effort minutes later.

Harry Boulton forced Bucks’ keeper Andy Collins into his first save on 26 minutes but Landricombe showed his class with a good finish soon afterwards.

Buckland made it two in controversial circumstances when Ryan Bush completed a flowing team move – after Bridport complained of a throw-in they felt had been taken further upfield than permissible.

With Bridport deflated at their lack of luck – and still furious with the officials – Buckland’s Owen Stockton made it 3-0 from six yards out.

As Bridport tired, Landricombe added his second on 84 minutes before brother Mike, another ex-Tiverton star, rounded off the scoring in stoppage time.

Post-match, Bees’ boss Rob Marquis said of the pivotal second goal: “We probably could have reacted better.

“We do tend to be a bit naïve when we get a bad decision, we get aggrieved, which is natural.

“We’ve got to learn to be a bit more streetwise. However, I did feel for the lads.

“We’re competing in all areas of the pitch and not getting the rub of the green at times.

“Buckland are a pretty strong outfit and their manager said to me that you really are doing a good job.

“He said we weren’t the worst team they’d played and our boys had worked hard for me, which they have.

“But that doesn’t get me three points, does it?”
