PORTLAND United boss Franklyn Clarke hailed the attributes of exciting wing wizard Matty Burrows after his move from Balti Sports.

Teenager Burrows tore the Dorset Premier League up last season with his pace and goals.

Burrows netted a free-kick in a friendly against Portland earlier this summer and shone at Bridport for his new club in the Blues’ 4-0 win on Tuesday.

On Burrows, who grabbed an assist against the Bees, Clarke told Echosport how impressed he was after playing against the promising wide man.

He said: “He got the ball, I went over to close him down and as I got over there he was three yards past me before I knew it!

“Then he scored a free-kick in the second half. He’s just dangerous, one v one situations you’ve got to give him the space and he goes past people quite comfortably.

“We’re really happy to have him on board, he’s a good lad, another young lad and he’s really keen.

“He’s buying into the professional environment we’re trying to create. I’m really happy to have Matt.”

Clarke also thanked Balti boss Marco Nott for his part in the deal.

“I just want to say that Marco was fantastic with us,” he said.

“Obviously it’s not nice for him to lose probably his best player. But how he was about it was a credit to him and Balti.”
