ELITE volleyball makes a comeback to Dorset this weekend in the shape of the Weymouth Invitational Tournament.
The famed women’s competition has been held in London in recent years.
However, tournament organiser Ian Loke has brought the event back to Redlands Community Sports Hub for two consecutive days of action on Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27 (10am-5pm).
Weymouth will be entering a team alongside a number of Super League sides – the top division in the sport.
Team South Wales, two from Polonia London, London Mallory, Wessex, London Orcas, London Docklands and Waterloo Thunder, plus others, will compete.
Play will be comprised of a round robin format before the top two teams play the final.
Planning the tournament was a difficult logistical challenge with regulations for indoor sport hanging in the balance over lockdown easing scheduled for Monday, May 17.
Teams have now had a month to prepare for the event, which comes after play in the top flight was cancelled for the 2020/21 season due to Covid-19.
