CATTISTOCK & SYMENE III 101-7 (5pts) lost to DORCHESTER III 233-7 (18pts) by 132 runs
DORCHESTER Thirds romped to their first win of the season at Cattistock & Symene Thirds thanks to a swashbuckling maiden ton from teenager Devon Derrien who carried his bat for 130.
Losing the toss, home captain Graham Bartlett inserted the visitors at the picturesque Symene ground and it was Derrien, son of the club’s infamous chair Mark who took the challenge to the opposition.
His supreme knock included 14 fours and a six and he was ably supported by 14-year-old James Peak who hit a classy 26, wily veteran Nick Joslin (15) and captain Simon Joslin (44) who retired hurt after turning his ankle, plus 13-year-old Tom Kinsey finishing with a stylish 11 not out.
The outcome was a total of 233-7 at the close, Bartlett finishing with 2-6.
In reply Symene lost regular wickets with Peak (1-12), Fin Barge (0-18) and Alfie Stevington (0-13) bowling well.
The pick of the bowlers was 13-year-old leg spinner Tom Kinsey, who bowled a beautifully controlled spell, finishing with figures of 2-9 from his eight overs and it was also nice to see Tom Joslin (1-7), son of Nick, pick up his first senior wicket with his first ball.
The Foxes’ Bradley Wilkinson (26no) batted very patiently as the hosts made 101-7 for a 132-run loss.
Stand-in captain Joslin said “ Devon’s knock was an outstanding innings and the young players in the large squad show improvement every week which bodes well for the future. Credit to the home side who stuck to their guns and also showed a lot of promise.”
Today’s game sees Dorchester host Puddletown Seconds at St Osmund’s.
