WEYMOUTH Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters is hoping to see a familiar face as his side prepare to host Carmarthen Dragons in the Midland and Southern Development League at Wimborne Road tonight.
The Dragons have ex-Wildcat Luke Barnes in their squad, who rode in meetings for the Weymouth team last year, and Peters revealed Barnes has helped his son Sam (Peters, who rides for the Wildcats) out, but worries Barnes may miss the match.
Discussing Carmarthen, Peters said: “Luke Whitehead has ridden for us a couple of times. He has just joined their team and Luke Barnes is programmed to ride.
“I have been talking to Luke (Barnes) a little bit, he helps out with Sam, and is a mechanic for him sometimes.
“He hurt his wrist not long ago and I think he fell off the other day and hurt his wrist again. Hopefully he will be alright to ride. I know he wants to ride against us.”
Peters is wary of Carmarthen, and acknowledges the strength in their opponents’ team.
Peters said: “We are straight back into it, with pretty much the same team (from the 20-10 defeat away to the Reading Racers on Monday) Andrew Palmer is coming in for James Jessop.
“It is going to be hard, Carmarthen have got a very strong looking team.
“To me they have probably got one of the strongest teams in the league.”
However, Peters said that anything can happen, and suggested his side will just see how it goes.
He said: “But anything can happen, sometimes just staying on your bike gets you a point, and that changes the whole context of the meeting sometimes.
“If the rider goes a little bit too bullish and the track just catches them a little bit, and off they go all of a sudden things can turn around a little bit, so just see how it goes.
“It is going to be another hard one.”
Wildcats: Laker, Peters, Kirtley-Paine, Palmer.
Carmarthen: Alcock, Whitehead, Woodward, Barnes.
