WEYMOUTH Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters admits Reading Racers “have a stronger team” than his squad ahead of their Midland and Southern Development League meeting tonight.
Wildcats are looking to record their first victory of the season after a thrilling 18-18 draw with Milton Keynes Knights preceded an abandoned clash with Birmingham Bulls following a nasty crash involving Edinburgh Monarchs in the prior Championship League fixture.
Weymouth will keep faith with the four selected riders for that meeting with James Laker, James Jessop, Cesca Kirtley-Paine and Sam Peters all involved.
However, Weymouth come up against a Reading team that inflicted 24-11 and 17-7 losses upon the Wildcats in the Southern Development League last year.
Peters is therefore expecting a similar tale against a Racers outfit renowned as possessing one of the fastest squads in the league.
He told Echosport: “Looking at their team, they’ve got a stronger team than us. I expect them to win but anything can happen, anyone can slide off at any time.
“A chain can snap and change things from a 5-1 one way to a 5-1 the other, you never know.
“Hopefully the three guys and Cesca will give it their best and see what happens. As long as they get that bit quicker and faster, that’s what we’re aiming to see.”
On the Reading circuit, he added: “I’ve never actually been (to Reading’s track) myself but the track has changed. They’ve shortened it by maybe 30 or 40 metres.
“It’s a little bit smaller than what it used to be, maybe to encourage more close racing. Track-wise, on a smaller scale, it’s going to be new to everyone.
“Sam’s never been there – I’m not sure about the rest. I think (Reading) have only done one meeting there themselves so it’s not exactly going to be any advantage for them.”
