BUDMOUTH COLLEGE U14 5
THOMAS HARDYE U14 3
BUDMOUTH College Under-14s completed the area and county double by seeing off Thomas Hardye 5-3 at Dorchester Town’s Clayson Stadium.
This was the third year in a row the team had managed to get to both finals but had only managed to win the Area.
In recent weeks, Budmouth managed to secure the county cup for the first time winning 2-1 against Poole Grammar.
Budmouth managed to complete the double having to come back from 1-0 down to take the cup.
The game was a very close battle in the first half but some early possession and attacking phases allowed Budmouth to be the more prominent side.
However, after 12 minutes it was Thomas Hardye who countered to score after pinching a loose ball high up the pitch.
Budmouth pushed for a leveller but saw numerous efforts go high and wide.
At the other end, Thomas Hardye were being halted by some good defending through Budmouth’s five-man rearguard.
Finally, with five minutes of the first half to go, a goal-kick landed straight to Budmouth’s attacker, who with his first touch killed the ball and unleashed a curling effort which floated over the Hardye goalkeeper for 1-1 at the break.
With only 35 seconds on the second-half clock, Budmouth’s captain unleashed a 35-yard curling effort which found the top-right corner for 2-1.
Budmouth wasted more opportunities, allowing Hardye to seize their chance.
A well struck free-kick just outside the box saw the ball deflect off the wall and into the bottom corner for 2-2.
With 25 minutes to go, a double salvo from Budmouth put them in front.
Their third strike was a demonstration of desire as he latched on to a through ball to neatly poke the ball under the keeper.
The attacker’s hat-trick was a header from pinpoint cross that, hit the underside of the bar and in, and sent the Budmouth players into hysteria for 4-2.
As the players started to tire, Hardye tapped in for 4-3 to set up a tense final 10 minutes.
However, it was not to be as one minute later, Budmouth won the ball and played it through as the Weymouth school side slotted home for 5-3.
Budmouth would like to offer a special thanks to Dorchester Town FC who have supported school football this year through the use of the sporting facilities available and to the officials that have given up their time to additionally support the games.
