WEYMOUTH Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters admits he expected Luke Barnes, Jake and Bailey Fellows to leave, following the news that their league will be restructured.
However, the Wildcats have moved to sign up James Laker to fill one of the vacated spaces, while they have also said that they have a home ground, the specific location of which is yet to be announced.
Peters said: “I was expecting it. As soon as we heard the news I spoke to James (Tresadern, fellow co-promoter of the Wildcats). I knew that Bailey and Jake would stay with Birmingham because it is about half an hour to an hour from their house.
“It is a lot of saving them money, I kind of expected that (they would depart).
“I was expecting it (Barnes departing) we had touched upon it a couple of times.
“I said ‘at the end of the day you have got to do what is best for you and if riding on a Saturday is best all round for your lifestyle then that is what you have to do.’”
It is currently looking probable that the Wildcats will not ride at weekend slots.
Peters added: “It is going to be a shame to see them go.
“With Bailey and Jake, the way they have improved over the season, they have both got so much better.
“Jake was starting to pick up points, Bailey was getting closer and closer to the front.
“I honestly do believe that both of them will be at the top end of the races scoring big points and maybe even winning races. It is just a shame it will not be for us and someone else.”
