WEYMOUTH Wildcats’ co-promoter Martin Peters admits he is ‘kind of pleased’ that the season has ended after he saw his side beset by availability issues throughout the Southern Development League campaign.
As a result of the availability issues, the Wildcats fielded a full team just once during the entire season, during which they went winless with eight defeats.
Peters said: “I am kind of pleased it is done now. It is nice to look forward to a little break and we can possibly start looking forward to next year because we have got to start planning, sorting your riders out and getting sponsorship in. You get about a month’s break and then it is starting all over again so it will be nice to have a break.”
Peters admitted he had been full of optimism but unfortunately due to injuries and van troubles he was often left scrambling to get a rider in for a meeting.
Peters said: “I was full of optimism at the start of the year, it was great we have got four riders that are really keen to ride and then things happened, you cannot get away from injuries and you cannot get away from van troubles.
“Then it started happening again where we were trying to find other riders and we will go again next year, see how we go.
“Hopefully it might be a little bit different next year, you never know.
“We have got to sort out what the team is going to be, who wants to continue riding for us and all of the other things that go with it.”
Peters will still be involved during the break from the competition, with his son Sam set to continue riding and practicing.
Sam Peters is Weymouth Wildcats’ mascot and recently claimed a second-placed finish at a youth ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ event in Berwick, where he rode in the 250cc division against four other riders.
Peters said: “I have still got Sam (Peters) who is going to be practicing and stuff so while i am not doing Wildcats I am going to be doing stuff with Sam so I am going to keep going all the way through.”
