WEYMOUTH'S Molly Horton set a record for the fastest time for a girl as she starred in a county swimming event as Weymouth’s young swimmers once again performed magnificently at the recent Dorset Graded Meet at 1610 pool in Dorchester.
Horton recorded the fastest time for a girl at the event beating stiff competition from the county’s top swimming clubs including clubmate Ruby Cartwright who picked up the silver medal.
Molly came first in the 100m freestyle event in the 12 years age group for swimmers with a time of one minute 15.12 seconds.
Ruby picked up her silver medal with a time of one minute 18.23 seconds. With two others from the club coming in fourth and fifth place the event was dominated by Weymouth swimmers.
The Dorset Graded Meet is for swimmers aged between nine and 12 from across the county who do not have regional qualifying times.
In total 28 swimmers from Weymouth Swimming club entered the Graded Meet and together they picked up 10 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.
There were 52 personal best times were also recorded making it a hugely successful event following up the club’s recent victory in the Dorset Novice League.
Head Coach Nicki Brunell said: “It is just fantastic to see so many good swimmers doing themselves and the club proud. They train hard but have fun along the way and they are seeing the rewards of their effort and those of the coaching team at the club.”
The medal winners from Weymouth Swimming Club were: 9 Years Age Group: Geoffrey Goodrick – 50m butterfly gold, 100m individual medley gold, 50m freestyle silver, 50m backstroke silver, 50m breaststroke silver.
10 Years age group: Anna Miles-Simmonite – 50m freestyle gold, 100m Individual Medley gold, 50m backstroke silver, 50m breaststroke bronze. James Gunn – 100m Individual Medley gold
11 Years age group: Macy McKernan – 50m freestyle bronze.
12 Years age group: Ruby Cartwright – 100m backstroke gold, 100m individual medley gold, 100m freestyle silver. Molly Horton – 100m freestyle gold (fastest girl), 100m backstroke bronze.
Freya Barrington – 100m breaststroke gold, 50m butterfly silver, 100m individual medley silver.
Evie Smith – 50m breaststroke gold.
Harry Wills – 200m freestyle bronze.
