REDLANDS UNDER-11s 3
POOLE TOWN WESSEX UNDER-11s 0
REDLANDS’ girls gained an excellent 3-0 win over Poole Town Wessex to claim the Dorset Girls’ County Cup trophy.
Despite harsh conditions, Redlands remained unfazed and stuck to their game plan which started to come to fruition within the first 10 minutes, with an intelligently-delivered through ball being played to striker Zara Hunt who speedily left her opponent and made no mistake with a composed side net finish.
Redlands remained 1-0 up until the whistle blew for half-time, thanks to hard work from team captain and goalkeeper Charlie Legg with her defence of Emily Sparing, Emilia Newton and Scarlet Paul.
Poole did a tremendous job defending their goal in the second half as a compact unit, however, a 25-yard rocket from Maddison McGrath extended Redlands’ lead.
With Redlands now confidently on the front foot and still goal hungry, winger Dakote Enikova delivered a huge throw to a crowded goal area and two Poole players combined to score an own goal.
Redlands manager and coach Aaron McGrath said: “I am very proud of the team effort displayed. The defence worked and communicated well to keep a clean sheet at one end of the pitch and the attacking players stuck to the game plan and delivered at the other end.
“It was also pleasing to see the girls rewarded for all the hard work they put in continuously, week-in, week-out at training.”
