HEREFORD 2

Myrie-Williams 55, Reffell 69

WEYMOUTH 0

WEYMOUTH suffered their third defeat to Hereford this season as a strong debut performance from Jennison Myrie-Williams helped the Bulls see off the Terras 2-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Goals from Myrie-Williams and Keyon Reffell added to their 2-0 league defeat at home and a 4-1 defeat away in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

Late chances from Weymouth could not rescue a goal against the league leaders and as a result Weymouth stay third in the table, while their opponents pull away at the top.

The Terras were unchanged to the side that beat Royston Town 3-0 last time out, while Charlie Davis returned to the bench but Harry Baker, who suffered a head injury against Royston, was not in the squad.

Prior to the match the Terras could boast the signing of defender Thiago Caze da Silva, who was released by Italian Serie C side Carrerese Calcio at the end of January and made a late substitute appearance.

Hereford announced the signing of forward Myrie-Williams on Friday, who was most recently playing at Torquay United, in one of two changes for the league leaders, the other being James Bowen, the duo coming into the squad in place of Cameron Pring and Jamie Bird.

The match started slowly with Hereford attacking well but without ever really threatening Will Dennis, barring a good early save from James Oates.

Weymouth were finding chances hard to come by, with the best early chance seeing a nice move earn a corner shortly after the quarter-hour mark.

Eighteen minutes in Pablo Haysham created a good chance but hit his shot straight at Dennis.

For Weymouth, a break from Ben Thomson provided a good opportunity but Oates was back to cover for the Bulls.

In the 30th minute Bowen found Mike Symons who turned and fired in a shot but Dennis was on hand to save.

Myrie-Williams was having an impressive debut as he set Elliot Richards up for a shot which Weymouth were glad to see roll wide in the 38th minute with Dennis beaten.

Two minutes later the Bulls came at the Terras again as Oates fired straight at Dennis, but real opportunities were proving difficult to come by despite plenty of good build-up play from both sides.

As a result, the teams went into the break level with Hereford having had the greater opportunities but without seriously threatening the Terras.

Hereford soon had a penalty appeal in the second half which was waved away after Myrie-Williams went down under a challenge from Jake McCarthy.

But Myrie-Williams opened the scoring shortly afterwards with a fantastic goal into the top left-hand corner to give the Bulls the lead on his debut.

Hereford were on top and Haysham nearly doubled the lead for the home side with a chipped effort that went narrowly wide of the Weymouth goal.

The Terras were finding the second half tough going as they found chances hard to come by.

Reffell doubled the lead for the Bulls in the 70th minute as his low left-footed shot went under Dennis.

Weymouth tried to respond as Ashley Wells then went on a run and earned a corner, which was headed away by Bowen.

Abdulai Baggie then managed to get the ball into the box but Purdie cleared away for the Bulls as Weymouth began to exert pressure on the hosts.

Caze da Silva came on for his Terras debut when he replaced Brandon Goodship in the 77th minute, and six minutes later Thomson took an effort but sent the ball wide of the target.

A late free-kick by Davis, after a foul on Callum Buckley by Dara O’Shea, from just outside the box resulted in a header from Josh Carmichael which went wide via a deflection.

John Mills had a great late chance as he went on the break but Carmichael got back to stop his foray forward.

Despite the probing late efforts from Weymouth they could not find a breakthrough as Hereford closed out a win that edges them closer to promotion.

Weymouth are next in action when they face Slough Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
