WEYMOUTH Under-15s completed an exceptional treble by defeating local rivals Dorchester Magpies in the League Cup final, played at Chapel Gate Sports Centre.
Having already won a double by claiming the Dorset Under-15 League and County Cup, Weymouth faced the League Cup final with only 10 players due to injury and the absence of three players – Josh Howell, Louie James and Daniel Henman, who were participating in the gruelling Ten Tors challenge on Dartmoor that weekend.
The match at Chapel Gate proved to be a pulsating affair with Dorchester taking the lead on three separate occasions, only to be pegged back by goals from Weymouth’s Elliot Rossiter (2) and Cristian Damaschin.
Level at 3-3, the match was set for a tense final 10 minutes with both teams looking to seal the win.
But it was Weymouth who took the lead for the first time in the game when Rossiter completed his hat-trick with a neat close range finish, sending the Weymouth contingent of a large crowd into raptures. It was no more than the Weymouth boys deserved having competed a man down.
In the final five minutes, the game was then put beyond doubt for Weymouth when Bailey Rowe to make it 5-3 converted after a great run and cross by Harry Clent who beat four Dorchester players before picking out his man at the far post.
n On Dartmoor at the Ten Tors challenge, Howell, James and Henman all made exceptionally good time in the 35-mile route.
The three boys have missed a few league games this season due to training weekends which started in November and the other players have shown extreme team spirit and versatility in supporting their team-mates when they have been absent. The team would like to thank Atlas Elektronik for their continued support.
