WEYMOUTH racer Sam Peters delivered an encouraging performance in the third round of the British Youth Championships at Rye House.
The Wey Valley student, 13, claimed four points from his four races at the meeting, bettering his tally of three set in round two.
For his father Martin, co-promoter of the Weymouth Wildcats,
the emphasis is on gaining racing experience rather than scoring points.
“It was a good points progression for him but for me it’s about him going to races and getting better at the sport,” he told Echosport.
“The points are an added bonus but they mean more to him than they do me so I give him a pound per point!”
Weymouth Wildcats’ mascot Sam, whose race number is 555, claimed points in three of the four races he contested in Hertfordshire and Martin is seeing tangible development in his racing.
“I think he knows he can ride better but he’s improved massively from the very first runs to now.
“In Peterborough it was his first race and he wasn’t used to the noise being around him, which affected his starts.
“Now his starts are really good and in the first race at Rye House he was leading into the first corner so that just shows how much he’s improved,” Martin said.
Next up for Sam is a practice meeting in Plymouth on Friday before a return to Rye House in June to contest the fourth round of the season.
