WEYMOUTH’S youth teams find themselves well placed to challenge for medals in all three divisions of the National Cadet League, Southern Division with just one round left to play.
Weymouth A are just two points behind leaders Bournemouth A in Division One, finishing on 22 points.
Crucially, the Bournemouth side won the fixture between the sides 4-2, and this was Weymouth’s only defeat as they bounced back with a superb 5-1 victory over Southampton A and also winning against Winchester, Reading A, Weymouth B.
Jamie Blair ended the day with the only 100 per cent record in the division with 10 match wins and he was well supported by Hector Knight and Tom Lydford.
Weymouth’s B side of Jed Brackenridge, Rosa Mckechnie and Jess Moggeridge find themselves bottom of Division One, three points behind Reading A.
The longest match of the day was between Weymouth B with the Berkshire side recording a 4-2 victory.
Bournemouth B are three points clear of Weymouth C in Division Two. The Weymouth team were unbeaten throughout the day, securing 3-3 draws against Bournemouth B and third-placed Reading B and defeating Bournemouth C, Generation II A (Fareham) and Bournemouth D.
Jules Holloway won seven out of his nine games, with Josh Clark winning six from 10 and Nathan Calton winning five from nine.
The Third Division is set to be the closest finish. Weymouth D are level on points with Southampton B, with the Isle of Wight only one point behind.
Jaimee Browne and Richard Lane both finished with seven wins from 10 games, while Ethan Bingham got six wins to put the Weymouth side in a great position going into the last round. Weymouth D beat Generation II, Reading C, Weymouth E and Isle of Wight before a nail-biting 3-3 draw against Southampton to close.
The Weymouth E team of George Ackerley, Ted Paul and Alex Gugan steadily picked up points throughout the day to finish in a credible fourth place. The highlight was a 4-2 win over Generation II where all three players picked up vital points
in close matches.
