WEYMOUTH Cougars’ annual presentation day took place at the Marsh and, once again, proved what a hardy bunch the Cougars’ players and their families are.
The weather was not kind but, despite the rain, the club saw a tremendous turnout and, all things considered, a good time was had by all.
Cougars’ chairman, Andy Harris, thanked everyone for turning out on such a day and, spoke of the successes both on and off the pitch.
He went on to tell those attending of the challenges which lie ahead and asked for the continued support of all the club’s members.
Fundraising is the very lifeblood of any amateur organization and many people have given up their spare time to help with the Cougars’ various events throughout the year.
A special tribute was paid to all those who helped make this year’s Summer Sixes an outstanding success, which has once again secured the club’s financial future for the coming season.
Harris was keen to point out that many people during the course of the season had contributed to the club’s success and he thanked all players, parents, managers, coaches and many helpers for their efforts.
The awards are presented to those individuals who have achieved personal excellence but the club will not forget the contribution made by all of the prize winners’ teammates as the Cougars continue to measure success by the numbers of youngsters playing and enjoying their Sunday football with the club.
Four trophies were awarded to each team and medals were awarded to all who represented the club during the season including all of the club’s mini kickers, who will hopefully form the nucleus of the Cougars’ league teams for many years to come.
Every year a special trophy is kindly donated by the parents of the late, and sadly missed, John Clarke. The recipient of this year’s outstanding achievement award was Jim Halls.
In accepting the award, Halls spoke of the outstanding contribution of so many individuals and paid a special tribute to Natalie and Johnny Anderson for their tireless work in running not only their own team but also the mini soccer school.
