JASON Matthews is hoping to add at least one new addition to his squad ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Cambridge City.

Danny Clay’s exit from the club has now been confirmed while Matt Cafer has signed a professional contract with Gibraltar Europa College following a successful trial in Spain.

That has left the Weymouth boss with very limited options, particularly with Simon Evans, Kyle Critchell, Jamie Symes and Dave Allen all sidelined, and Jake Green’s loan stay still hanging in the balance.

Matthews told Echosport: “Danny’s release forms were signed on Saturday and with Matty also heading to Spain, it has obviously left us low on numbers.

“We wish both lads the best of luck in the future and the focus now is to bring in lads to replace them.

“I already have a couple of irons in the fire and hopefully there will be some movement this week.

“I have one lad that is desperate to come and I am keen to get that done in the next couple of days so he is available for Cambridge.

“I am also hoping to get a loan signing in as well, especially with Luke Burbidge struggling with a bit of a hamstring injury at present.

“We are also working hard to extend Jake Green’s loan stay to a second month, so it promises to be another very busy couple of days.”

The Terras recorded a 3-2 victory at Arlesey Town on Saturday.

Scott Walker grabbed the winner from the spot after the Blues had got back level after going two goals down.

The victory has taken Weymouth up to 12th in the Calor Southern Premier Division, just one point adrift of the top eight, and Matthews was delighted with the performance.

He added: “It was always going to be tough at Arlesey but we put in a really good performance.

“We played down the slope in the first half with the wind at our backs and played some decent stuff.

“Our final ball could have been better but Michael Walker scored following a good set piece, and Stewart Yetton got on the end of a great cross by George Rigg to put us 2-0 up at half-time.

“They had a couple of chances as well but overall our first-half display was pleasing.

“They then made a change at the break and that seemed to galvanise them a bit.

“I was disappointed with the two goals we conceded because they were both sloppy but the lads kept going, and, in the end, Scott Walker got us the winner from the spot following a clumsy tackle in the box.

“It was one of those games where we had to show a lot of character and the spirit in the camp was excellent.

“We had a lot of players out there who were 50-50 before the game and the way they went through the pain barrier for the cause was just fantastic.

“Everyone is digging in now and hopefully we can keep it going.”
