Hi readers, it’s Emily and William here talking about looking after our physical and mental health.
I Emily have time off work next week, so am going to treat myself to a hair and nail appointment, and getting my annual health check done. I’m doing this because life has been difficult, and health has taken a backseat, so thought it was important to make time to get my mind and body back into better shape.
What has recently helped is that I’ve bought a reclining armchair and am really excited about coming home each day to relax in it!
We are conscious other people in the world are suffering, which can make us feel guilty about looking after ourselves. If we don’t take care of ourselves though we will eventually wear out, possibly not being able to do our jobs or look after those who depend on us. We’d also worry other people if we fell apart, causing them stress and then someone else would then worry about them - negative worry chain!
It doesn’t matter what we do to make ourselves feel better – if it’s simply talking to someone, going for a walk, doing a crossword, reading the paper or gardening – it’s if it makes us feel good. Talking with others can help create ideas, like me getting the new armchair, which came from friends' suggestions.
I, William like going for walks in the fresh air and doing mindfulness. The countryside makes me feel good. My perfect day would start with a swim, then a nice walk, probably with Matthew, followed by a healthy lunch. We’d finish the day in a pub listening to music, before heading for a late film at the cinema.
What do you do readers to look after yourselves?
