Piers Morgan has said he is a “caged animal ready to be unleashed” ahead of the launch of his evening talk show.
The TV presenter, 57, is making his return on news channel TalkTV on Monday night with his show Piers Morgan Uncensored having already made headlines for an “explosive” interview with its first guest, former American president Donald Trump.
TalkTV, the new venture from News UK, the publisher of the The Times and The Sun, airs on linear TV platforms as well as online services such as Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and YouTube. Morgan’s new global show will launch via TalkTV in the UK, Fox Nation in the US and Sky News in Australia.
Speaking on Times Radio on the morning of the show’s launch, Morgan said: “I am like a caged animal ready to be unleashed. I think the show is going to be great.
“I think it fills a void in this country where people are crying out for a bit of common sense about all this woke, cancel culture nonsense.
“I’m going to be the knight in shining armour, racing to the rescue of the nation. And we start with a corker of an interview tonight where you see Donald Trump lose his rag, what’s not to love?”.
Preview clips and quotes released feature the former US head of state giving his views on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Mr Trump tells Morgan, when asked if he was the Queen, would he ‘remove their royal titles’, that he would, saying: “The only thing I disagree with the Queen on, probably one of the only things ever, is that I think she should have said, if that’s your choice, fine.
“But you no longer have titles, you know, and frankly, don’t come around where you’re just… because her loyalty is to the country.
“She said that many times. Her loyalty is to the country.”
Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in March 2020 in a quest for personal and financial freedom and now live in the US.
Another promotional clip also appears to show Mr Trump storming off camera after being challenged about his claims the 2020 US election was “stolen” from him.
Mr Trump later released a statement claiming Morgan “attempted to unlawfully and deceptively edit his long and tedious interview with me” before the presenter urged the public to “watch the interview – it will all be there”.
Morgan told Times Radio that if he had not been “cancelled or censored” he would still be working on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
He famously stormed off the set last year and then subsequently left the show, after saying he did not believe claims made by former Suits actress Meghan during her and Harry’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview.
He told Times Radio: “If that was true, and I wasn’t cancelled or censored, I’ll still be doing Good Morning Britain, which was a show I loved, which I trebled the ratings in five years, made it the most talked about morning TV show, beat the BBC on our final day and so on.
“I would still be doing that show, let’s be crystal clear. I loved it.”
Ofcom later ruled that Good Morning Britain was not in breach of the broadcasting code over Morgan’s controversial comments.
The launch schedule for TalkTV on April 25 will start with The News Desk hosted by The Sun’s former political editor Tom Newton Dunn at 7pm.
The show will use News UK’s stable of journalists, including The Times’ political team, The Sun’s showbiz desk and talkSport correspondents, and Morgan will follow with his global show Uncensored at 8pm, broadcasting from studio facilities in Ealing, west London.
Hour-long panel debate show The Talk, featuring Sharon Osbourne, will air at 9pm and brings together five famous faces with different backgrounds and views to debate current affairs issues.
Primetime programming on TalkTV will also broadcast on the News UK radio station TalkRadio, while TalkRadio’s daytime programmes, featuring presenters such as Julia Hartley-Brewer, Mike Graham and Jeremy Kyle, will broadcast on TalkTV.
