SPORTING stories are always very popular with Looking Back readers and our recent tale of Bill Hoskins and his prowess on the pitch (Looking Back, September 13) generated a response from regular reader Liz Cooper.
She lent us the photograph of the Holy Trinity Old Boys Football team at the end of their highly successful 1931-32 season.
Bill Hoskins, the goalkeeper, is pictured in the middle of the back row and several members of Liz’s family were also members of the team.
Her father Herb Huddy is pictured in the middle row, second from the right, her uncle Sid is pictured standing to the right of Bill Hoskins and her uncle Ash is standing third from left in the middle row.
The chap on the far left wearing a dark jacket and light trousers is Snip Parsons.
Can anyone name any more of the successful players?
The original story was supplied by Bill Hoskins’ daughter Diane Butler and she also lent us some further pictures of her dad in his Holy Trinity Old Boys heyday.
There is one of him in his Old Boys strip and another one of the whole team, this time taken in 1930-31, the year before Liz Cooper’s picture.
We also have a later photograph of Weymouth Football Club taken in the 1947-48 season when they won the Dorset senior Cup and came runners-up in the Western League, Division II.
Helpfully, the photo has the names of all the players and support staff.
They are, back from left: F C cocking, W Kingdon, R C Andrews, F C Poole, R J bartlett, H A Holcombe, C Gill, O L Frampton.
Middle row from left: H Cole, F Miller, W Wyatt, W G Pitney, G Summerbee, W Hoskins, R Grant, F Sheppard, A Hawkes.
Front row from left: F Ames, R Pickett, W C Anderson, A J Bilke, R E Gregg, B Smith and W J Hillear.
