IDRIS Martin’s story about life in a Littlemoor pre-fab in the 1950s (Looking Back, May 24) sparked a storm of interest from readers.

Many phoned in saying how much they enjoyed living in the houses and others contacted us with stories about the Dragon reactor at Winfrith.

Veronica Phillips, nee Chubb, has many memories of living there and brought in this selection of photographs dating back to that time.

Some are family snaps taken around the home at Littlemoor, near Weymouth, while others are class photographs taken at St Nicholas’ School at Broadwey, also near Weymouth.

The school picture sent in by Idris was dated 1957, while Veronica’s are from the following two years and she is pictured in both of them.

Veronica said: “I have many memories of living in the pre-fab homes and Idris’s mother, Mrs Martin, was a very good friend of my mother’s and helped her out when she was ill.

“The houses were lovely, and we moved to them when I was nine or 10.

“They had fridges, which were a real luxury in those days, as well as fitted cupboards. I remember people knocking on our door and asking us to let them know if we were moving out so they could move in after us.

“I think there were just 100 houses at Littlemoor then and the rest was countryside. It was like a village community.”

Veronica also has fond memories of schooldays at St Nicholas and says the school was ‘lovely’.

“I have many happy memories of my time there,” she said.

If anyone can name the people in the school pictures or has more memories of life at St Nicholas and Littlemoor in the 1950s we would love to hear from you.
